MANA EDITIONS SERIES / 06
IMAGINATION,
UNBOUND
IDEAS BEYOND BORDERS
A BRIGHTER TOMORROW
“Creativity begins when the page stops telling us exactly what to do.”
THE IDEA
Not every book asks to be read from beginning to end.
Some ask for a pencil.
Some ask for colour.
Some leave a space deliberately unfinished.
Some begin an idea and invite the reader to decide what happens next.
Imagination, Unbound is the MANA EDITIONS Series dedicated to books that turn the reader into a participant.
Colouring, drawing, observation, invention and creative activity become ways of exploring the world rather than simply filling time.
There is no contradiction between play and intelligence.
A blank space can require a decision.
A drawing can begin with observation.
A choice of colour can become an act of interpretation.
An unfinished image can invite a child to imagine something that did not exist before.
These books create structure only to give imagination something to escape from.

SOMETHING NEW
OUR APPROACH
01
GIVE ENOUGH STRUCTURE
A creative activity needs a beginning.
02
LEAVE ENOUGH FREEDOM
The reader should still be able to surprise the book.
03
MAKE BEAUTIFUL OBJECTS
Activity books do not need to look disposable or cheap.
04
DESIGN FOR PARTICIPATION
The page should invite action rather than merely display content.
05
LET DIFFERENT ANSWERS BE RIGHT
Creativity becomes less interesting when every page has one predetermined result.
06
MAKE CURIOSITY VISIBLE
A child should be able to look back at the finished book and see evidence of their own choices.
MORE THAN COLOURING
Colouring books are an important part of Imagination, Unbound, but they are only the beginning.
The Series is designed to grow into drawing books, creative activity books, visual puzzles, observation books, interactive journeys and formats we have not invented yet.
The common element is participation.
The book provides the starting point.
The reader changes what happens next.
BOOKS IN THIS SERIES
Books designed to be completed by the imagination of the reader.
MADE BY THE READER
“Two readers can begin with the same book and finish with two different objects.”
SAME BEGINNING
DIFFERENT COLOURS
DIFFERENT LINES
DIFFERENT CHOICES
DIFFERENT IDEAS
A DIFFERENT BOOK
DESIGNED FOR YOUNG IMAGINATIONS
Children do not need poor design in order to recognise that something was made for them.
Imagination, Unbound combines accessible activities with the same attention to typography, illustration, paper, composition and visual identity that MANA EDITIONS brings to every publication.
The result should feel inviting to a child and beautiful enough for an adult to want to keep.
